Solid Strip AND PARQUETRY Timber Flooring
A quality timber must be matched with a quality timber floorcoating. Provincial Floors makes use of the most reputable finishes on the market when it comes to polishing your new floor. Provincial Floors gives customers 3 choices of finishes; Solvent-Based Polyurethane, Water-Based Polyurethane and Natural Oil and Wax finishes. Each finish is unique and has its own advantages and disadvantages. Some coatings may be more suitable for your lifestyle than others. Your choice of coating should be decided upon two major factors - lifestyle and appearance. Below is more information regarding our types of timber floor finishes.
Waterbased Polyurethane
A Water-Based Polyurethane Finish is Melbourne's most popular flooring finish. This finish is a superficial layer that sits over the surface of the timber to protect the wood from harm such as grit. This provides an extremely hard-wearing surface that does not frequently require maintenance.
The difference between this finish and traditional Solvent-Based Polyurethane is that this coating is based upon water rather than solvents. It is designed to maintain the natural look of the timber and slows down the timber darkening or yellowing overtime unlike traditional Solvent-Based Polyurethane. As solvents are not used, this finish is low odour and user-friendly unlike traditional Solvent-Based Polyurethane.
Available in Matte, Satin and Gloss sheen variants.
Custom Staining
Our Water-Based Polyurethane System allows for custom staining prior to the application of the Protective Water-Based Polyurethane coatings. Custom staining can assist in creating unique looks and aesthetics.
Oil and Wax
Oil and Wax is currently a trending finish in Melbourne and is used frequently in Europe for its natural look and feel. Oils penetrate the timber's surface providing for a finish within the timber whilst wax’s seal the timber and provide for a stunning surface. Due to the natural composition of this coating, this finish gives the floor more of a natural appearance in comparison to Polyurethane.
Our Oil and Wax finishes have an endless colour range and can be mixed to create a custom colour for you.
These finishes are 0 VOC and solvent free.
Oil and Wax based finishes are very easy to repair and do not require expensive sands in order to repair scratches unlike Solvent and Water-Based Polyurethane finishes.
These floors do however require more regular maintenance to ensure they look their best and maintain their durability. Maintenance is quite cost effective as these floors can be rejuvenated without the need of sanding.
Available in Matte and Satin sheen variants.
Solvent-Based Polyurethane
Solvent-Based Polyurethane Finishes were popular in the early 2000s, however are rarely used today.
This finish is extremely durable and is very resistant to scratching and stains.
This coating warms the natural colour of the timber and is prone to yellowing with UV. This creates an orange effect throughout your floor over time and is undesirable amongst most people. Water-Based Polyurethane Finishes do not yellow as quickly or as much as Solvent-Based Finishes.
These coatings are harmful to humans when inhaled.
Available in Matte, Satin, Gloss or High Gloss sheen variants.
